LIFE WITH LESS TV? BUT HOW? -- You may have heard that average American households typically have the TV on for more than seven hours a day, and that a typical child spends more time in front of the TV than in school every year. Doctors, educators, and other experts suggest cutting back, but how? In real life, how do you get young children to let you get dinner made, or pay the bills, and how can you relax at the end of the day?

Center for Screen-Time Awareness, a national non-profit organization, in partnership with the American Academy of Pediatrics, launched AmericaLive! to provide real families with practical tips on how to watch less TV. The project is designed to create a bridge between the recommendations of experts and real families facing the hectic balancing act required by raising young children, working, and facing household responsibilities.

REAL TIPS FROM REAL PARENTS

"Turn It Off: Real Tips From Real Parents to Limit TV" is the first publication from Center for Screen-Time Awareness's AmericaLive! partnership with the American Academy of Pediatrics.

It's a great new tool to help parents and families with young children to break free of TV in their own homes. We interviewed over 100 families who have young children who watch little or no TV. They told us all about the joys, challenges, and benefits of limiting children's TV time.

And they gave us concrete suggestions and practical tips on how to do so in their homes.

"Turn It Off" is the first document of its kind and is sure to make a real difference in the lives of families nationwide.

"Turn It Off" is available free of charge as a PDF file, or you may purchase hard copies of it at our online store.

Once you have either a hard copy or a PDF of the document, you may feel free to copy and disseminate it.
